2022 Seoripul Art Gallery Open Call
옥세영 작가는 지속해서 관심 가져온 매체의 시작과 끝을 따라 걸으며 예술가로서의 정체성과 연구영역을 심화하고 있다. 작가는 19세기 후반 활동사진과 미국의 풍경 사진에 족적을 남긴 에드워드 머이브리지(Eadweard Muybridge)의 작품을 중심으로 매체라는 위성이 그리는 공전의 궤도를 추적한다. 서로 다른 위상을 지닌 공전의 궤도에서 위성은 우연히 충돌하여 분해되거나 예기치 못한 모습으로 융합된다. 매체의 가능성과 한계 사이에서 2D와 3D, 시간과 공간을 넘나들며 유영하는 작품을 작가는 실험을 통해 물질적인 실체를 획득하였다. 전시는 그 그림자의 끝자락을 따라 진행된다.
The artist Ok Seyoung is deepening her identity as an artist and her research area by continuously walking along the beginning and end of the medium that has consistently attracted her interest. Focusing on the works of Eadweard Muybridge, who left traces in the late 19th-century action photography and American landscape photography, she traces the orbit drawn by the satellite called the medium. Satellites with different phases accidentally collide in their orbits, breaking apart or merging unexpectedly. Through experimentation, the artist has acquired material substance, moving between 2D and 3D, time, and space amidst the possibilities and limitations of the medium. The exhibition progresses along the edge of these shadows.
